Bio

Tom is an M-2 at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, analyzing cardiopulmonary vital signs among COVID-19 patients under Dr. Martin Blaser as part of the RWJMS Summer Research Fellowship Program. He graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Virginia, where he was a research assistant at the Institute of Law, Psychiatry and Public Policy under Prof. Richard Bonnie. His mental health policy work focusing on psychiatric advance directives and involuntary commitment inspired him to pursue an MPH in Epidemiology at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. There, he worked under Dr. Briana Mezuk at the Center for Social Epidemiology and Population Health, with a focus on applying Natural Language Processing methods to the epidemiology of late-life suicide.
