Biography

Dr. Zhan Gao has been involved in microbiome research for more than 20 years, since she first used powerful molecular methods to determine the composition of bacterial populations on the skin and is currently involved in most of the microbiome research in Dr. Blaser’s lab. Her research includes the use of mouse models to study the effects of antibiotics on obesity, metabolic and immune disorders, the molecular biology of the microbiome in skin, gastric, intestinal and renal disorders, the role of antibiotic-induced microbiome perturbations in the early development of autism spectrum disorders and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as microbial, immune and metabolic perturbations by antibiotics in young adults.
