Matthew K. Harner

Biography

Matt has broad interests in the fields of psychopathology, genetics, and neuroscience, with a specific focus on the influence of structural genetic variants on treatment outcomes in severe mental illness. Originally from Philadelphia, where he received an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Temple University, Matt’s research has primarily focused on the prevalence and clinical impact of rare copy number variants in patients with treatment-resistant psychosis. He moved to New Jersey with his husband in 2022 to join the Mulle Lab in studying the phenotypic spectrum of 3q29 deletion syndrome.

Outside of the lab, his interests include behavioral economics, the exploration of consciousness, and cryptography, as well as spending time in nature.
